About:

Jordyn is an emerging artist working in non-objective abstraction exploring the definition of self and how one represents that self.

Her work has been shown in Louisville’s Cressman Center for the Arts at their Annual Winter Exhibition, Louisville’s KMAC Museum, as well as The University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute Schneider Hall Gallery.

Statement:

My paintings/works are physical representations of the constructed self in which childhood trauma and self doubt have created. The use of vibrant colors and bold strokes evoke a sense of childlike wonder. The freedom and movement that is created within the works are aimed to cast a veil over what lies behind; what lies behind is the exiled self that will do all it can to protect itself from every being hurt again. To protect itself from pain a false identity of happiness is projected to the public. The colorful shapes abstractly represent the idealized traits I place on this false self. The three-dimensionality of the work aims to expose the layers that exist when attempting to define oneself and just how hard it can be when one might be hiding behind a false version of self. In my dreams, I often take the form of these shapes in three dimensions. This performed identity becomes physical in the works, freeing my body of the weight.
